This case demonstrates Double Eye’s expertise in user experience design for large content systems and our ability to develop technical solutions using the Microsoft .Net platform.
Simmons & Simmons are a Top-10 global international law firm, with offices in over 15 countries. Elexica is their online knowledge base containing over 5000 articles providing a substantial resource for clients, staff and other stakeholders. Content on Elexica is made available to users via a login process which supports tight control to determine the level of access on a per-user basis. A bespoke administration system, implemented in Microsoft .Net, controls publication of content to the site, and who has access to what.
Double Eye was asked to re-develop the Elexica system focussing on providing a better user experience with a restructured user interface. The re-development was to coincide with a re-branding of the site, by Simmons & Simmons branding agency, Philosophy Design.
Re-develop the Elexica system focussing on creating a new user experience which resolved current user issues, maximised the value of the site and re-inforced the service-oriented culture of Simmons & Simmons.
To develop a connection between the Elexica and Simmons & Simmons sites so users felt there was a seamless experience in moving between them, whilst ensuring each site retained its own identity.
To create an efficient publishing system to operate on top of their existing administration system.
Research was conducted with Elexica users to determine the issues with the current site. Working from the research outputs, the site requirements were determined.
A new site architecture was designed to meet the requirements and a wireframe model of the new site developed. This was tested with users to ensure issues had been resolved and the optimum user experience had been achieved.
It was clear from the user research & testing, that the site search functions and access control system would have to be re-developed. A technical assessment was conducted to determine feasibility and a technical development and migration plan formulated. A Microsoft search technology was chosen by Double Eye.
Working from the wireframe model, screen designs were created by Philosophy Design whilst all technical development and integration work was undertaken be Double Eye.
The hosting platform was reviewed and it was determined the site would benefit from a new hosting provider. Double Eye sourced 3 potential suppliers for Simmons & Simmons and provided guidance through the decision making process. After a supplier had been appointed Double Eye migrated the site to the new provider, including the existing content databases and administration systems.
Prior to launch, the site was subjected to further user testing to ensure all user experience issues had been resolved. The user testing provided very positive feedback.
The site was launched in October 2006 received an extremely positive response from both users as well as stakeholders within Simmons & Simmons.
